Hello!
My interests are trifold: invertebrate research, education outreach, and public service.
My invertebrate research interests and experience are focused to Lepidoptera (moth & butterfly) ecology. I am interested in evolution, climate change, and physiology of Leps through a combination of field work, lab work, the use of museum collections, and community science. Specifically, I am interested in using museum collections to measure how butterflies have changed over time in comparison to current populations as result of climate change.
My education outreach interests are focused on middle school and high school students. I want to use my research to create curriculum for students to get involved in using big, real data sets through community science and scientist connections/repesentation. I am hoping this leads to better curriculum that help students in understanding science, but also helps their confidence and interest in becoming a scientist.
My public service interests are concentrated mostly to the LGBTQIA+ community and increasing community science. I have done work in the past to educate teachers about creating safe places in their classrooms but also in their lessons. More recently my interest are about helping LGBTQIA+ people feel comfortable in the field of science.
I have a BS in biology and a BS in secondary education with a minor in math from the University of Nevada, Reno. I also have an AS in biology and an AS math from Truckee Meadows Community College.
