Finally! Nearly six months later (or something), the 2024 GRFP results are out!
I was awarded the NSF GRFP! ππ₯³π
I am sort of still in shock. It was such a long wait and dealing with an undetermined future really rocked me for a bit. Out of all the days they finally released the results last night and send out the emails this morning, on my birthday.Β
I am almost more relieved to have the results then to know what the results are. Before the award was announced, I had a countdown going for months to an undetermined date. (How hard is it to just set a release date and tell us?!) Each day I would check the countdown and every night I would check what others were posting about possible release dates. Aside from subbing, I was almost constantly checking forums, Fastlane, and my email, even though I knew it wasn't good for me. I was dreaming about the results coming out, stressing about every possible scenario, and making lists or who I need to tell when the results do come out.Β
Many of the people I contacted about the results are those who helped me with the application back in October: professors and grad students who provided feedback, friends who let me vent about the stress, family, and all my letters of recommendation writers. For them I am forever grateful! When I think back to writing my personal statement and research proposal I was sending it to every professor, TA, and peer to give me any feedback possible. Additionally, I've been going to my universities GRFP workshop/informational session for four semesters. Most of the information was repetitive after the first time, but it always helped to be reminded of all the requirements, contacts, and resources. I remember in the first one I went to, the lead had mentioned "if you are writing this semester, you need to have started your outreach efforts two year ago." That day I began looking into more relevant things I could do and places I could volunteer and intern, which led to most of my outreach efforts today. All of this led to my personal statement and research statement.
I am so completely thrilled and honored to be awarded.Β
I can't wait to see where it takes me and I'm eagerly anticipating the hard part, grad school.
