Hello!
My interests are trifold: invertebrate research, education outreach, and public service.
My invertebrate research interests and experience are focused to Lepidoptera (moth & butterfly) ecology. I am interested in evolution, climate change, and physiology of Leps through a combination of field work, lab work, the use of museum collections, and community science.
My education outreach interests are focused on middle school and high school students. I want to use my research to create curriculum for students to get involved in using big, real data sets through community science and scientist connections/repesentation. I am hoping this leads to better curriculum that help students in understanding science, but also helps their confidence and interest in becoming a scientist.
My public service interests are concentrated mostly to the LGBTQIA+ community and increasing community science. I have done work in the past to educate teachers about creating safe places in their classrooms but also in their lessons. More recently my interest are about helping LGBTQIA+ people feel comfortable in the field of science.
I have a BS in biology and a BS in secondary education with a minor in math from the University of Nevada, Reno. I also have an AS in biology and an AS math from Truckee Meadows Community College.
